A Mango Society production by Carolina Ortega and Mateuz Fafinski
Do we really know what Freedom is and could we handle it? Freedom Hurts is an absurd exploration of the human condition through the fable of two animals in the midst of a reproductive and existential crisis. A deconstruction of the illusion of freedom, asking the audience ‘can we really handle it?’.
A Mule & a Liger, hybrid creatures purposely bred for human benefits - feel purposeless and lost in their given roles. Escaping from their respective confinements, they realise they don’t have the tools to survive in the wild. When they meet by chance at the edge of a cliff - about to jump of - they attempt to envision a new way to exist, inadvertently recreating the one they’ve just escaped.
Written by Carolina Ortega and Mateuz Fafinski and directed by Sarah Calver. It premiered at 100˚ Festival 2015 (Sophiensaele).
